Even in a particularly crowded luxury handbag market, Hermès occupies a spot unto itself. The bags are scarce, sought-after a simply the best, and they have the price tags that go along with all that exclusivity. Making the leap from being a designer handbag consumer to being an Hermes consumer is a daunting prospect, but we know that, at this very moment, untold numbers of you are contemplating whether or not now’s the right time to do just that. We’re here to help, of course; if you’ve ever wondered if owning an Hermes bag is worth paying the premium, we’ve got ten reasons why we think you should take the plunge.
Getting in just to shop for a bag at Hermès’s flagship boutique can take up a full day of your vacation.
[Editor’s Note: We’re taking a break this week before the end of summer, so for the next few days, you’ll see a mix of new posts and some old favorites. This is one of the latter—think of it as PurseBlog Classic!]
I’m only exaggerating a little. There are technically no children in this celeb roundup (wherefore art thou, Kiernan Shipka?), but Hermès is the undisputed favorite this week. Everyone who wasn’t at the Met Ball was apparently on their way home from Morocco following David Beckham’s lavish, three-day 40th birthday celebration last week. I actually turned 30 yesterday, but it did not involve four out of five Spice Girls, Marrakech, or my own trending hashtag on Twitter. I’ve already come to terms with all that.
However, I’m definitely not turning down one in the event that you want to present me (just sayin’). While the Birkin has had it’s time in the spotlight, contrary to other fly-by-night fashion bag companies, the Hermes bags in general have spanned generations by creating quality purses that practically everyone from the adolescent to the sophisticated grandma can comfortably take. Some of the genius was in pruning and styling these special handbags after legendary, beautiful girls of the moment. Since we’re a family of equestrian lovers, the tote for me that has long tugged at my heart strings would be your Évelyne. Originally showcased together with the rake from the equestrian department, the Évelyne was intended for the groom who juggles many things while taking excellent care of the coveted horse. This bag intrigues me. It does not have the fancy ladylike institution as Grace Kelly’s iconic bag or the boho-chic institution of Jane Birkin’s beauty. For goodness sakes that lady was so cool that she carried a wicker basket for a hand bag around Paris! But the low-key elegance of this Evelyne appeals to me and my life. Named after Évelyne Bertrand who was the mind of Herme’s riding section, it was initially introduced in 1978 for holding grooming and tack paraphernalia. Not hailing in the style section, it’s that “relaxed” sensibility that’s refreshing.

Now I want to share a fast overview of one of those bags I bought while in Paris — that the Hermes Evelyne. The Evelyne is a bag that has been on my radar, but that for one reason or another, I put off trying it out for ages. A cross-body tote is much more convenient once you’re running about, and that I believed the Evelyne could be a perfect candidate. While we had been in Paris — I tried on a few sizes — PM, MM (which I’m told is a little more rare and hard to find), and GM. I arrived home with the PM size, which I found to be the most ideal size for my requirements and frame. There is no zipper close, only a leather tab that clips from 1 side to another about the bag. Here’s a snapshot of all of the items I usually take in my Evelyne on a day to day basis — a water bottle, makeup case, sunglasses, long wallet, Kindle, journal (plus a phone and keys, that aren’t pictured). Occasionally of course the contents are swapped — no water jar but a few ballet flats to change into, etc. With the contents under within my Evelyne, it is rather packed but by no means “overstuffed ” — what fits neatly inside and I could still reach in comfortably and sift through my own items. One aspect of this Evelyne that I really liked when I tried it was that the thick canvas strap. It’s also quite comfortable to wear. Here are the two ways I wear my own Evelyne the most — as a more shoulder tote, and round the entire body.
I also love the perforated H, which was initially meant to keep moisture from the tack and the bag, but now adds to the entire bundle, with a nod to the French firm with no too much logo on your face. To digress a moment on the subject of logos, I’m a tad annoyed at the oversize logos in fashion nowadays, aren’t you? The entire beauty of a logo is to be small and stay under the radar, except for its “in the know”.After a New York Magazine story published in 2012, revenue of this tote soared but no matter it’s always been my favorite from the Hermes Evelyne Epsom Price Replica family of luggage. The Kelly is lovely and believe me it’s my fantasy bag, and yes I want one when I have a great deal of money put aside, but I expect an Evelyne drops from the sky this winter so I could take photos ringside of my daughter and her team while they compete to their equestrian group in the hopes of qualifying for regionals and zone finals.be on the watch out at the next equestrian event you attend for someone speeding by on a bicycle with this bag draped across them as they hurry to the ring to groom their horse. Wait, that’s not how glamorous it is at muddy horseshows, but this is fashion so let us go with it…”Hermes spared a thought for grooms who are also riders in love with their mounts. It was to allow them to take sponge, brush, currycomb and other stable things soaked in horse-sweat, but without causing any damage, that the bag which conveys her name is constellated with air-holes. Their H-shape set at a horseshoe oblong makes it so elegant that pedestrians and footsloggers normally have refused to let the riders have the thing to themselves. That’s why the H of this Évelyne no longer suggests only substance for dressing, but all sorts of other objects as well, all of them a help when considering the hoof.”
The Evelyne D’hermes Replica Evelyne III Bag is not as famous as the Birkin and it doesn’t have the same price tag, but we are seeing an increase of fashionista’s and celebrities carrying this bag in their casual time. Why is that?
